Keep Fairfield Beautiful News Release
Contact:Mary Urias, Executive Director,KFB

Every spring, PalmettoPride, South Carolina’s anti-litter organization and parent company to Keep South
Carolina Beautiful, in partnership with Keep America Beautiful, Inc., coordinates the Great American Cleanup™,
a localized cleanup, beautification and community improvement program. Recognized as the nation’s largest
cleanup event, millions of residents across the country take part in this springtime campaign to clean up and
beautify communities all across America. The national event lasts from March 1 – May 31. This year we are
focusing on the month of April for the Great American Cleanup of South Carolina.
The Great American Cleanup™ is a fun, educational, outdoor, springtime activity! In addition to organizing a
litter clean up, your group can also take part in other green events of your choice. If you want to recycle cans, or
plant a garden or cleanup your neighborhood or park – we can help you with supplies to get it done. If you want
to clean up your neighborhood and then plant flowers in the median, you can do that too. (There are guidelines
from the local Department of Transportation  for roadsides.)You can do one event or many.
This year, Keep Fairfield Beautiful will be awarding 13 KFB PLANT PRIDE GRANTS to start a community project
of your own. These grants are part of a grant received from a Palmetto Pride Community Pride Grant. To
participate: Organize a group, pick an area to cleanup, pick a day and complete a KFB Plant Community Pride
Grant application to help support your project. If your project is selected, your group will receive $500.
Keep Fairfield Beautiful was awarded a grant through Palmetto Pride to offer 13- $500 Plant Community Pride

to “BE THE CHANGE” in their community.

KFB  PLANT PRIDE GRANT guidelines: The Goal of these grants are to help to
create a Community of Caring in Fairfield County by creating Neighborhood Groups. There will be 13 grants of
$500 each.

1.        Organize your group- talk to your neighbors, Churches, Schools, Civic groups…enlist as much help as
you can for your project. Neighborhood Watch Groups who apply will  be considered first, then the remainder of
funds available will be selected from the other grant applicants. If interested in starting a Neighborhood Watch
Group or finding out if one is already present in your area, please contact your local law enforcement office.
Groups must have at least 5 members to qualify for a grant.
2.        Pick an area to clean up and plant. Clean up and planting may be independent areas in your community.
Plan and identify people in your neighborhood who may need help to complete their spring clean up jobs
(Always get permission to do any project on any property). …America was built on people standing on their own
feet and helping their neighbors….Fostering the common good of the people. Suggested uses for these grant
funds are to increase the beauty of your neighborhood: purchasing plants, for around the mailboxes or street
view of your area, and creating a community garden are two examples of a group project. There are many more.
Please note that these projects are left up to the group to define. Be creative!

group project.  Please note that these projects are left up to the group to define. Keep records of your expenses
